January Art Show - Jan. 28, 2012

The Lake Placid Art League sponsors an annual art show and sale on the last Saturday of January at the Sebring Agri-Civic Center on Highway 27 just a few miles north of Lake Placid. The event has been presented for twenty-three years at the same site and at the same time. The one-day show and sale opens at 9:00AM and closes at 4:00PM. Admission is free to the community and a ticket is given to each visitor for free door prizes, which are awarded every thirty minutes throughout the event.
Refreshments and tickets for art drawings are available for the visitors, benefiting the Art League. Art pieces are donated for each year's shows by Art League members and may include sculptures, paintings, jewelry, photography and other media. Refreshments include barbecue sandwiches, hot dogs, various drinks, donuts, and desserts.
Artists from numbers of states and various parts of Florida enter the Art Show & Sale each year. Hundreds of artists are on the mailing lists and receive applications and other forms necessary for entry to the show. The entry fee is $50.00 per booth for inside or outside booths. approximately thirty-three inside booths are available and the number for outside booths is unlimited. Prizes of money and ribbons are awarded in numerous categories, both fine arts and crafts. The Best of Show award earns five hundred dollars; first place winners receive one hundred dollars; second place winners receive eighty dollars; third place winners receive sixty dollars. All receive ribbons for their placements and numerous honorable mention awards are also presented.
A special school exhibit of the Lake Placid Senior High School art students is featured at the Show with winners earning cash awards and ribbons in the special student categories of two and three-dimensional artwork.
